Loving our Community

This ministry is very important to our church.  Our goal is to love our community with “no strings attached.”  This outward expression of serving our community can open the door for the church to share the love that God has for all His people.

Community Free Meal

River extends our love to the community by providing an early Christmas meal to those in the community.  The church donates all of the food items and prepares the meal at the Episcopal Church.  Music, baked goods and fellowship are highlights of the day.  While the adults help with the meal preparation, our youth help with setting up.  They also get an opportunity to serve in the food pantry with sorting food items for the Portage community.

Block Party

Another yearly event is our Block Party held at River of Life Church sometime during the summer.  This free event brings in many people from the community.  The afternoon is filled with the excitement of free bounce houses, free kid’s games, and live music.  Those that attend can also have free popcorn, hot dogs and snow cones.

Texas Missionaries

Each summer, about a dozen high school age youth and leaders from Texas come to River of Life Church to help serve God by immersing themselves in our community.  They prepare months ahead to develop “Back Yard Bible Clubs” for youngsters and also themed activities for middle and high school students at the church and park.  Missionaries also have helped at the local women’s shelter, painting the church, helping church members, helping with a block party, having a FREE car wash, working the fair booth and serving in other areas in the community.  All the while they are having their own Bible studies and making life long friendships with the children and members of our Church family.
