Evangelism – Missional Living Seminar

I was asked to be a speaker for the “Missional Living Seminar”.  I was specifically given the task to discuss “Evangelism in the Missional Life”.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do my talk live, so I pre-recorded this video message for the seminar.  I felt a little uncomfortable in the beginning recording while talking to my computer.  So here is the video teaching, along with all of my bloopers in the beginning.

Public Rebuking of False Teachers

Recently I had posted that I was sad that Jennifer Knapp has stated that she is a lesbian.  As you could imagine, I have taken some flack for that.  I received the same when I asked people to pray for Ray Boltz when he “came out of the closet”.  The sad thing is that the negative response did not just come from the world… but some from those who profess to follow Christ as well.  Typically they claim to want to “love the person” and not condemn them.  The problem is… the Bible says that unless we all repent of our sin and trust Christ, we will perish and go to Hell.  There is no “eternal security” for those who do not forsake their sin.

1 Corinthians 15.1-2 says:

“Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.”

Is it wrong to publicly call out those who attack (either directly with their teaching or indirectly with their sin) the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ?  Even when their denials and heresies are much more public than my blog or Facebook account?  Let’s see what Jesus, Paul, Peter, and John have to say about how to deal with false teachers.  Do they confront it?  Do they, in many instances, actually name the people involved?

I have found that most people who claim to love Jesus and follow the Bible, have almost no clue what it says on this at all.  So to edify the body of Christ, let me share what the Bible tell us on this matter, and it says plenty:

6 Reasons Pastors Should Blog

Pastors should blog…

1. …to write.

If you’re a pastor, you probably already know the value writing has for thinking. Through writing, you delve into new ideas and new insights. If you strive to write well, you will at the same time be striving to think well.

Then when you share new ideas and new insights, readers can come along with you wherever your good writing and good thinking bring you.

There is no better way to simply and quickly share your writing than by maintaining a blog. And if you’re serious about your blog, it will help you not only in your thinking, but in your discipline as well, as people begin to regularly expect quality insight from you.

Easter Service – Plan A

This last Sunday was Easter, and I had prepared a sermon outlining John 21.  All week long I had spent my quiet time in Matthew 25.34. I simply could not get past this verse. The implications of it were staggering to me.  So I did my devotion time all week in that one verse (Mt. 25.34) and did my sermon prep in John 21.

Well about 3 minutes before I was set to go up and preach, I was sitting and praying during the song “Victory in Jesus”.  As I was praying I had absolutely no peace about preaching John 21. I felt the Lord leading me to preach on Matthew 25.34.  Now this is not your typical Easter sermon passage, so I prayed earnestly to seek God’s direction.  I felt it overwhelming that I should preach on Matthew 25 instead.  So for the first time ever, I walked up to the pulpit on the biggest service of the year, with a new sermon just 3 minutes before I was going to preach. Yikes!

The big issue was that I simply could not preach the sermon I had prepared.  Why?  Because I strongly felt God telling me He had another plan instead.  When God tells us to obey, it may not make sense to us, but our response should be obedience. On the surface, nobody would have known in the congregation.  But I would have known, my Lord would have known… and I had a choice to make.  Obey the whisper of God in response to my prayer that He speak through me to His people, or do what I thought was right based on my experience that week.  To put it more simply – it would have been a sin to preach the sermon I had worked on all week. So I challenge you to not just do what seems right or godly, but to seek God and do what He calls you to do.  Find joy in blessing your Heavenly Father, not just in religious duty. Please continue to pray for me as I seek God and His will and continually try to align myself with Him.

P.S. – We saw people give their lives to Christ as a result of the sermon, so praise God for that!!  You can listen to the sermon by clicking here.
